Candela laser · MunichCandela GentleMax Pro Plus:
two lasers in one device.
Anyone reading up on laser hair removal soon comes across this device. Here is what it can do, what we use it for in Grünwald — and what even this device cannot do.
Two wavelengths instead of one
What sets the GentleMax Pro Plus apart is two lasers in one device. The first is the alexandrite laser at 755 nanometres: the melanin in the hair absorbs its light particularly well — which is why it is the benchmark for dark hair on fair to medium skin. What makes this wavelength special is explained on The alexandrite laser.
The second is Nd:YAG at 1064 nanometres. It penetrates deeper and is absorbed less by the skin itself. This makes it possible to treat darker skin tones and tanned skin safely as well, where a pure alexandrite laser would reach its limits.
For you this means: your skin does not have to suit the device — the setting has to suit your skin. We decide which wavelength to use during the free trial treatment.
A cooling burst before every pulse, no gel
Immediately before every laser pulse, a short burst of cryogen cools the skin — the Dynamic Cooling Device, DCD for short. It cools the surface while the energy travels down to the hair. No sticky contact gel is needed.
Most people describe the sensation as a quick flick, far more comfortable than waxing. More sensitive areas such as the upper lip or the intimate area are felt a little more than the legs or back.
Large areas, fine contours
The device works with different handpiece sizes, with us up to 24 millimetres in diameter. Large sizes cover more skin with every pulse on the legs or back, small ones allow precise work along contours such as the beard line or the upper lip. So even a large area stays a manageable appointment.
The pulse duration can be set from 0.25 milliseconds; short pulses mainly help with fine remaining hair towards the end of a course of treatment.
A medical device, not a cosmetic one
Devices of this class are found in specialist clinics, dermatology practices and specialised studios. According to the manufacturer, Candela's Gentle series is in use in almost 90 countries and is one of the most widely used platforms for laser hair removal worldwide.
The difference from IPL, as used by many beauty salons and home devices: IPL is filtered flash light across many wavelengths and spreads its energy widely over the skin. A laser delivers it at one fixed wavelength, precisely where it is meant to work.
The device is only half the story
A good device alone does not make a good treatment. With us, every session is carried out by Magdalena Graml herself — NiSV-certified, at the laser for more than ten years and with hands-on experience of several Candela device generations. She sets wavelength, handpiece, cooling and pulse duration for every area herself and adjusts them from session to session instead of working with presets. More about her on About us.
What even this device cannot do
A laser works through the melanin in the hair. White, grey and very light blonde hair contains too little of it — it cannot be removed with any laser, not even with the GentleMax Pro Plus. An honest conversation about this is part of every good consultation.
Frequently asked questions about the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus
Is the GentleMax Pro Plus an alexandrite laser?
Yes, and an Nd:YAG laser as well. The device combines 755 nanometres (alexandrite) and 1064 nanometres (Nd:YAG), so both fair and darker skin tones can be treated.
Which skin and hair types is the device suitable for?
With both wavelengths together, for almost all skin tones, as long as the hair is dark enough. White, grey and very light blonde hair cannot be removed with any laser.
Does the treatment need a cooling gel?
No. Before every pulse, a short burst of cryogen cools the skin surface. Most people feel the treatment as a quick flick; numbing creams are not needed.
How long does a session take?
That depends on the size of the area. With handpieces up to 24 millimetres, even a large area such as the legs or back stays a manageable appointment.
How many sessions are needed?
Usually six to eight, four to eight weeks apart depending on the body area. About 14 days after the first session, many treated hairs fall out by themselves.
Who operates the device?
With us, Magdalena Graml herself in every session, NiSV-certified, from the trial treatment to the last session. There is no changing staff.
Where near Munich can I be treated with the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus?
With us in Grünwald, just beyond the Munich city boundary: Südliche Münchner Straße 46. Tram 25 runs without changing from Max-Weber-Platz, and there are two customer parking spaces in front of the studio. More under Contact and directions.
