Underarms · MunichUnderarm laser hair removal,
instead of shaving every other day.
For many people the underarms are the first area they have treated for good. The area is small, the hair is strong, and the result shows in everyday life straight away. We treat in Grünwald on the southern edge of Munich, and Magdalena Graml treats you herself.
Why underarms respond well
The laser finds the hair through its pigment. Melanin absorbs the light, turns it into heat and passes the heat down to the root. Underarm hair is usually dark and strong, so it carries a lot of melanin. That makes this one of the most rewarding areas.
Everyday life adds to it. The skin in the armpit is thin, it is shaved daily, irritated and covered with deodorant. Razor burn, small red bumps and ingrown hairs happen here more often than on arms or legs. Once the hair stays away, the reason for those reactions goes with it.
What belongs to the area
We treat the hair bearing surface of both armpits. Where exactly the border runs is something we agree at the first appointment, so that no visible edge appears later. You can combine the underarms with other areas, for example the arms or the bikini line. That usually makes more sense than treating one area after another.
How the treatment works
It starts with the free trial treatment. We look at your skin and hair, treat one spot, and you feel what a pulse is like. After that we know which of the two wavelengths of our device suits you and how many sessions to expect.
During the session we work across the area in overlapping sections. Before every pulse a burst of cold hits the skin and protects it. Most people describe the feeling as a short flick, similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Numbing creams are not needed.
As a rule 6 to 8 sessions are needed, 4 to 8 weeks apart. The reason lies in the hair cycle: the laser only reaches hairs that are actively growing. The rest are resting and have their turn at the next appointment. About two weeks after the first session many treated hairs fall out by themselves.
Before and after a session
Shave before the appointment. That is not a rule but physics: the laser needs the root in the skin, and wax or an epilator takes it out.
How long to leave out wax, plucking, sun and self tanner beforehand depends on your skin and on the season. Tanned skin absorbs a lot of light itself, so we look at it before every session. You do not get a list of prohibitions, you get advice that fits you.
After the session the skin is briefly irritated, often slightly red, and that usually settles within a few hours. Whether to wait a few days with sauna, swimming pool, sport or sun is something Magdalena tells you afterwards, depending on how your skin reacted. You may shave between appointments at any time.
Who it suits, and where the limit is
Our device works with two wavelengths, 755 nanometre alexandrite and 1064 nanometre Nd:YAG. Together they cover almost all skin and hair types, including darker skin tones. Which wavelength fits you is decided at the device, not from a catalogue. More about this on the page The alexandrite laser.
There are limits. White, grey and very light blond hairs contain no melanin, no laser can remove them. We do not laser over tattoos, the area stays out. Prominent pigmented moles are covered. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we postpone treatment. If you take medication that makes the skin sensitive to light, please tell us beforehand.
Frequently asked questions about underarms
How many sessions do underarms need?
As a rule 6 to 8 sessions, 4 to 8 weeks apart. How many it will be for you depends on your skin and hair. After the free trial treatment we tell you what to expect.
Do I have to shave beforehand?
Yes. The underarms should be freshly shaved for the appointment so the energy arrives in the follicle and not in the hair above the skin. Wax, plucking and epilating take out the root the laser needs; how long beforehand to leave them out is something we discuss with you.
Can I use deodorant afterwards?
We tell you after the session, depending on how your skin reacted. Many people leave the area alone on the day and start again the next morning. Showering is usually fine straight away, lukewarm.
Does it help against sweating?
No. The laser works on the hair root, not on sweat glands. You will still sweat. Many people find the area fresher afterwards because sweat dries faster on hair free skin. That is not a promise.
Where do you treat underarms?
In Grünwald near Munich, Südliche Münchner Straße 46. Tram 25 runs without changes from Max-Weber-Platz through Giesing and Harlaching to the stop “Grünwald, Ludwig-Thoma-Straße”, and there are two customer parking spaces in front of the building. Details on Contact and directions.
What your treatment includes and what it costs is something we settle after the trial treatment. Every plan is put together individually. What the price depends on is explained on the page Prices.
