Which parts are meant

The usual division is upper arms, forearms, backs of the hands and fingers. Hands and fingers are not included automatically, they are agreed separately. Many people start with the forearms because they are seen most often.

Where the treated surface ends is agreed beforehand. At the transition from forearm to upper arm, or at the wrist, an edge would otherwise show.

What to keep in mind for this area

Arm hair is often finer and lighter than hair on legs or underarms. The less pigment the hair carries, the less light it absorbs. The result on the arms is therefore harder to predict than on strongly haired areas. The trial treatment shows how your hair reacts.

Arms are also often exposed to the sun. Tanned skin absorbs a lot of light itself, so we plan appointments with enough distance from sunbathing. At the elbow the skin lies close to the bone and is more sensitive, so we work more carefully there.

How the treatment works

It starts with the free trial treatment on one spot. Afterwards we know which of the two wavelengths of our device suits you and which setting we work with.

During the session we cover the surface in overlapping lanes, and before every pulse a burst of cold protects the skin. As a rule 6 to 8 sessions are needed, 4 to 8 weeks apart, because the laser only reaches hair in the active growth phase. About two weeks after the first session many treated hairs fall out.

Before and after a session

Shave your arms before the appointment. The laser needs the root in the skin, so waxing or epilating beforehand gives no result.

How long to leave out wax, plucking, sun and self tanner beforehand depends on your skin and on the season. Tanned skin absorbs a lot of light itself, so we look at it before every session. You do not get a list of prohibitions, you get advice that fits you.

After the session the skin is briefly irritated, often slightly red, and that usually settles within a few hours. Whether to wait a few days with sauna, swimming pool, sport or sun is something Magdalena tells you afterwards, depending on how your skin reacted. You may shave between appointments at any time.

Who it suits, and where the limit is

Our device works with 755 nanometre alexandrite and 1064 nanometre Nd:YAG. Almost all skin and hair types can be treated. White, grey and very light blond hairs cannot, because the pigment is missing. Very fine light fuzz responds poorly as well.

We do not laser over tattoos, the surface stays out. Prominent pigmented moles are covered. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we postpone treatment. Medication that makes the skin sensitive to light belongs in the conversation beforehand.

Frequently asked questions about arms and hands

Are the backs of the hands and fingers included?

Not automatically. Hands and fingers are small areas of their own that we add if you want them. Just say so at the first appointment.

Can I have only the forearms treated?

Yes, that is the most common choice. We agree beforehand where the surface ends so the transition to the upper arm does not show.

How many sessions do I need?

As a rule 6 to 8 sessions, 4 to 8 weeks apart. Because arm hair is often finer, we tell you what to expect after the free trial treatment.

Can you laser over a tattoo?

No. Tattooed surfaces stay out, the skin around them can be treated. The ink would absorb the energy and damage the skin.
