Face · MunichUpper lip, chin, cheeks:
carefully and precisely.
On the face every millimetre counts. The skin is thinner than on the body, the surface is small, and the result shows immediately. We treat in Grünwald on the southern edge of Munich, and Magdalena Graml treats you herself.
Which parts are meant
The upper lip and the chin are treated most often. Cheeks, sideburns, the jawline and the transition to the neck can follow. Every part can be treated on its own. If you only want the upper lip treated, only the upper lip is treated.
We agree beforehand where the surface ends. On the face the transition matters, so that no visible edge appears between treated and untreated skin.
Why facial hair behaves differently
Facial hair grows in shorter cycles than hair on the body. Appointments therefore sit at the shorter end of the usual 4 to 8 week interval, and more sessions are often needed than on the legs.
Stronger facial hair growth has many causes. Disposition plays a part, as do hormones, age and some medication. The laser works on the hair, not on the cause. If your body creates new hair, a refresher session can make sense later. Whether a hormonal cause is behind it is for your doctor to say. If your insurer needs a cost estimate, we write one.
How the treatment works
First the free trial treatment on a small spot. Afterwards we know which of the two wavelengths suits you and which setting we work with.
On the face we work in smaller sections than on the body. Before every pulse a burst of cold protects the skin. Your eyes stay protected throughout the session. About two weeks after the first session many treated hairs fall out by themselves.
Before and after a session
Come with clean skin. Shave or trim the hair before the appointment; plucking, waxing and threading lead nowhere, because the laser needs the root in the skin.
How long to leave out wax, plucking, sun and self tanner beforehand depends on your skin and on the season. Tanned skin absorbs a lot of light itself, so we look at it before every session. You do not get a list of prohibitions, you get advice that fits you.
After the session the skin is briefly irritated, often slightly red, and that usually settles within a few hours. Whether to wait a few days with sauna, swimming pool, sport or sun is something Magdalena tells you afterwards, depending on how your skin reacted. You may shave between appointments at any time.
Care products with fruit acid or retinol, and make up on the day, are things we talk about beforehand. Neither rules out a treatment, they only change what we pay attention to.
Who it suits, and where the limit is
With the two wavelengths of our device, 755 nanometre alexandrite and 1064 nanometre Nd:YAG, almost all skin and hair types can be treated. On the face one limit shows particularly clearly: white, grey and very light blond hairs contain no melanin and cannot be removed by any laser. Fine light fuzz responds poorly as well. What is possible for you is shown by the trial treatment, and we tell you honestly.
We do not laser over tattoos. Prominent pigmented moles are covered. With larger pigment changes on the face we ask for a medical assessment before treating. During pregnancy and breastfeeding we postpone treatment.
Frequently asked questions about the face
How many sessions does the upper lip need?
As a rule 6 to 8 sessions, on the face at the shorter interval of four to six weeks. Facial hair grows in shorter cycles than body hair. After the free trial treatment we tell you what to expect.
Does the laser help with hormonal hair growth?
The laser removes existing hair, it does not change your hormones. If the body creates new hair, a refresher is usually enough. The cause is for your doctor; if your insurer needs a cost estimate, we write one.
Does the laser work on light or grey hairs?
No. Without pigment the laser does not find the hair. White, grey and very light blond hairs cannot be treated, and fine fuzz only to a limited extent.
Can I wear make up afterwards?
On the day of treatment we usually advise against it, because the skin is freshly irritated. Whether and from when it works for you is something Magdalena tells you after the session.
Where do you treat the face?
In Grünwald near Munich, Südliche Münchner Straße 46. Tram 25 runs without changes from Max-Weber-Platz through Giesing and Harlaching to the stop “Grünwald, Ludwig-Thoma-Straße”, and there are two customer parking spaces in front of the building. Details on Contact and directions.
What your treatment includes and what it costs is something we settle after the trial treatment. What the price depends on is explained on the page Prices.
